ALABAMA MAN BEING CHARGED WITH TWO COUNTS OF 2ND DEGREE MURDER FOLLOWING ALTOONA HOMICIDES
Lake County sheriff’s detectives are charging an Alabama man with two counts of Second-Degree Murder for the deaths of David Mikell and Shane Clements. The two men were shot and killed at 45918 Pennsylvania Avenue in Altoona, where Mikell resided, on August 25, 2022.
Detectives have been investigating the deaths since that time. The day after the two men were fatally shot, the suspect, 35-year-old Roger Myles Gilbert, was involved in multiple incidents in Ormond Beach, Florida. Ormond Beach authorities arrested Gilbert on unrelated charges and during their investigation, made the connection that Gilbert and the vehicle he was in were being sought in connection with the Altoona homicides.
As the investigation progressed, detectives obtained witness testimony and physical evidence that tied Gilbert to the murders.
Gilbert is still in custody in Volusia County on the unrelated charges. He will be held for the Lake County warrant for the Altoona murders, which is a no-bond warrant due to his being a flight risk.
