YEAR-LONG UNDERCOVER DRUG OPERATION RESULTS IN SEIZURE OF 2 POUNDS OF FENTANYL, 8 POUNDS OF COCAINE, $218K CASH, 7 FIREARMS, 2 VEHICLES AND NUMEROUS CHARGES RELATED TO DRUG TRAFFICKING FOR ASTATULA MAN AND WOMAN
In a nice follow-up to the recent Operation Sneak a Peek drug bust in which the seizure of a record amount of Fentanyl was announced just last month, detectives this week wrapped up a year-long investigation that also had staggering results.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the City/County Investigative Bureau (CCIB), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) recently concluded an investigation targeting the drug-dealing activities of 44-year-old Eugene Isom of Astatula. This investigation started a little over a year ago when detectives received information from several different sources (WeTip, citizen complaints, and intelligence reports) about Isom and his dealing narcotics throughout the county.
Detectives, with the assistance of the sheriff’s SWAT Team, executed a search warrant at Isom’s residence located at 22630 County Road 561 in Astatula early Wednesday morning (July 27). During the search, detectives located a one-stop shop of narcotics, complete with everything needed to distribute large amounts of illegal drugs. Detectives located the following items within the home: approximately 1 pound of crack cocaine, 2 pounds of Fentanyl, 8 pounds of cocaine, 2 pounds of methamphetamine, and 25 Tramadol pills. Detectives also seized approximately $218,000.00 in U.S. currency, 7 firearms, and 2 vehicles. In addition, packaging material, presses, digital scales, and other related paraphernalia items related to his illegal activity were located and collected.
Isom was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, Trafficking in Methamphetamine Over 200 Grams, Trafficking in Cocaine Over 400 Grams, Possession of Marijuana Over 20 Grams, Trafficking in Fentanyl Over 28 grams, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Controlled Substance (Tramadol), and Possession of Controlled Substance (Buprenorphine). His total bond was over $400,000.00.
Marie Richardson, 42, was also arrested and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance (Tramadol), Trafficking in Methamphetamine Over 200 Grams, Trafficking in Cocaine Over 400 Grams, Possession of Marijuana Over 20 Grams, Trafficking in Fentanyl Over 28 Grams, and Possession of Controlled Substance (Buprenorphine). Her bond also totaled more than $400,000.00.
This case is only part of an ongoing, continuing effort to combat those who deal drugs in our communities and its success would not have been possible without the support and assistance from our partners with the Clermont, Eustis, Mount Dora, and Leesburg Police Departments, as well as those from Homeland Security Investigations.
