LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF'S SCHOOL RESOURCE DEPUTIES CHARGE 13-YEAR-OLD AFTER THREATENING A SCHOOL SHOOTING
A 13-year-old female student was arrested earlier today at Umatilla Middle School after she threatened a school shooting on Snapchat. The student, Thea Stiles, posted the threat this morning after other students apparently got her in trouble for selling nicotine for vapes (according to her post).
Stiles was interviewed at the school and admitted to making the threat. She was then arrested on a felony charge of making written threats to do violence.
The Sheriff’s Office and Lake County Schools maintain a zero tolerance for such threats. Just three days ago, the school district and the Sheriff's Office shared a video on their Facebook pages of Superintendent Diane Kornegay and Sheriff Peyton Grinnell warning of the consequences associated with making such threats to do violence.
Attached is Stiles' booking photo and the related arrest affidavit (click icons below).
Stiles had no access to firearms.
