Captain Thomas D. McKane IV

grew up in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, FL. After graduating from high school at Westminster Academy, he moved to Lake County where he started his career as a dispatcher with the Lake County Sheriff's Office at 19 years of age. In 2001, he met his wife Andrea, who was also a dispatcher and now a Master Deputy at LCSO. They married in 2003 and now have 3 children. After encouragement from his wife, Thomas pursued his dream to be a law enforcement officer and in 2001 transferred to the Lake County Jail as a Control Room Operator (CRO) and completed the Corrections Academy to become a Detention Deputy. After completing the Law Enforcement Cross-over program, he transferred to Uniform Patrol in 2003 as a Deputy Sheriff. In 2005, Thomas was assigned to the newly formed Motors Unit. In 2009, he was promoted to Sergeant over the Traffic Enforcement Unit and Motors. In 2013, he was promoted to Lieutenant and served as a Uniform Patrol Watch Commander until 2015 when he was offered the opportunity to oversee the Emergency Communications Center. In 2025, Thomas was appointed Captain over the Emergency Communications Bureau giving him the opportunity to continue to oversee the area where his career began many years before. Captain McKane is proud to be a 4th generation law enforcement officer and feels that this service to his community is part of his DNA. Thomas and his family attend the First Baptist Church of Umatilla and is blessed to live and serve in Lake County.
