Major Chris De Libro
was born in Lakeland, Florida and grew up in Fruitland Park, Florida. After high school, he started serving the citizens of Lake County as a volunteer firefighter/emergency medical technician with Lake County Fire Rescue for over three years. He was then hired by the Lake County Sheriff's Office as a fulltime Detention Deputy in the Lake County Jail.
After graduating the law enforcement academy at the Lake Tech Institute of Public Safety in 1995, he transferred to the Law Enforcement Division. During this time, he had the opportunity to work many assignments which included field training officer, school resource deputy, property crimes detective, narcotics detective, aviation unit spotter, Special Weapons And Tactics operator and asst. team leader, K9 handler, Patrol Sergeant, Criminal Justice Academy instructor, Training Sergeant, first-ever sheriff's office recruiter and Director of the Criminal Justice Training Academy. In the past, he has also served as the Operations Chief in the Lake County Emergency Operations Center in times of disaster. He has been the commander of the Special Services Bureau, which included the Community Services Unit, School Resource Unit, Training Unit, Communications Center, Information Technology and Radio Services. He also served as the Captain overseeing the Investigations Bureau which consists of Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Investigations, Special Investigations and the Intelligence Unit. Currently, Chris is the Major overseeing Law Enforcement Operations Division.
Chris is a graduate of the FBI National Academy 259th Session, the Southern Police Institute's Administrative Officer's Course 119th session at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, the Sheriff Chris Daniels Leadership Institute at Lake Sumter Community College, and a Graduate of Leadership Lake County class of 2016.
Chris is the President of the Lake County Sheriff's Charities board, a board member of and past president of the Mount Dora Kiwanis Club, the Mount Dora High School Advisory Council, the Lake Sumter Community College Criminal Justice Advisory Board, the Criminal Justice Training Center Director's Association, the Lake Technical College Criminal Justice Advisory Board, the Hand in Hand Board of Directors, past member of the United Way of Lake & Sumter Counties Executive Board of Directors and past member of the YMCA Board of Directors.
When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Carey, and their two children, Celia Rose and Gavin August. Chris is also an avid cyclist and enjoys riding his mountain bikes and volunteering as a board member with the Ocala Mountain Bike Association (OMBA). He and his family are members of St. Edward's Episcopal Church in Mount Dora.
