Report Writers take phone-in reports from personnel in every area of the Sheriff's Office; primarily from Uniform Patrol, who generated 10,552 reports in 2016. A deputy initiates his or her report by calling the Report Writers, who type the report into the call-in system while the deputy dictates the information.

The Report Writer is responsible for editing and proofreading each report for accuracy. A total of 14,898 reports were taken through the call-in system in 2016. The Report Writing Unit is also responsible for maintaining accurate statistics that are sent to FDLE/Uniform Crime Reports Department to monitor the crime index throughout the state. In addition, paperwork pertaining to each report passes through the Report Writing Unit where each document is scanned by this 12-member unit, who are available 24/7.
