OVERVIEW:
The Corrections Bureau operates a full 11-acre garden, which has been very successful over the years. A supervised inmate work crew attends to the garden five days a week. The Lake County Sheriff's Office goal is to provide vegetables for the jail's inmate population to subsidize the budget, assist non-profit organizations, and to teach inmates valuable work skills; which may help them to be productive in society once they are released from jail.

REDUCING COSTS:
In 2016, we grew a variety of vegetables and produced over 15,000 lbs. The produce from the garden has helped subsidize the food service jail budget

PROVIDING TO OTHERS:
Other non-profit organizations, such as The United Way and Lake Cares Inc.(food bank) were provided with 25,276 pounds of produce.
